We’ve had another fantastic year at Living Poetry. We’ve gone from 30+ meetups, 3 types of events and 120+ members in 2009 to 140+ meetups, 8 types of events and 210+ members in 2010 – in large thanks to you and your participation in our Idea contest in April 2010.
In 2010 we’ve broadened our horizons, learned about the publishing process and made new friends. That calls for a party! On January 30th (Sunday), we will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary. Following our January Poet Local Ricky Garni talking about his path and career as a poet, we will be hosting a small party in appreciation of us coming together honoring poetry!
In case you are curious, here is what we are up to: Poetry Reading - reading and discussing poetry and life
Sharing Creativity - face to face workshop sessions to help advance our craft (also available virtually)
Poetry Book Club - monthly circle to discuss a poetry book and the poet
Poetry Prompts - weekly prompt sent out by email to nudge you to write a poem
Poet Local - poet talk: featuring published poets to talk about their passion and career path as a poet
Exploratory Poet - group events seeking out culture and nature to inspire us to write
Volunteer Network - we are building a network of poets volunteering in senior citizen homes
Local Open Mics - we post and visit at least 3 monthly open mics in the area (organized by others)
Of course we have a web presence: Living Poetry on Meetup (calendar of events & sign-up/registration)
For 2011, we will be adding one new event: Performing Your Poetry - a small workshop to learn and practice reciting your poetry
Our main mission in 2011 is to entice more of you to come out and play. The world of poetry is still very much alive and a lot of fun! And wait until you meet and get to know the poets, amazingly funny and caring people! Join us – even if it is only for one event!
Then there is April to look forward to: National Poetry Months! We’ll have a host of activities scheduled to celebrate National Poetry Month.
We invite you to comeout and join us! Be a part of this great group of passionate fans for Poetry! Let’s go poetry-crazy together!
