Fascinated by the power of poetry, members of Living Poetry (also known as Living Poetry at Brier Creek) are dedicated to keeping the pulse of poetry alive in the North Carolina Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill).
Not Just For Poets Living Poetry (LP) is not limited to poets. Even though there are many talented and award-winning local poets in the group, some members simply read works of other authors, while others attend just to listen to the poetry being read.
Poetry Readings, Workshops, Performances and Excursions LP offers a variety of ways for people to come together who appreciate poetry. Some meetings are exclusively for reading poetry (whether penned by the reader or by authors throughout history). LP doesn’t run readings in an open mic format, rather a more casual roundtable style where members can listen, discuss and share how the poems relate to life, themselves and society, bringing a deeper appreciation for poetry, each other and our world.
Creative workshops offer a platform for veteran and novice writers to have their own poetry critiqued, create a group poem, learn inspiring writing exercises and collaborate with each other.
Poets On The Loose is LP's performance group. Poets come together to select and stage poems to be performed in senior citizen homes, hospitals, schools, shelters and more. Here we can be creative beyond the page and connect with the community.
Poetry Book Club and Exploratory Poet events bring poets in the community together providing venues for inspiring exchange and fun afternoons or evenings.
Aside from organizing our own gatherings, we try to pick up and advertize poetry related events organized by other groups or individuals in the Triangle. Please see our meetup schedule for more details.
